caves & towers in KL

I found a grace again in Kuala Lumpur!

Running around the Masid Jemek district. The streets here are refreshingly rough and dirty after the clean streets of japan and korea. There are some nice hindu temples around as well.

And a mosque with nice polished floor

Its hard to escape the dirty feeling of the streets and river in the urban areas, although again its very relative to our recent travels. We saw some people fishing in the river too! Although I didn't hang around long enough to see if they caught anything.

Right then! Petrona Towers anyone?

Wee! We tried and failed to get up onto the bridge - apparently you have to show up at 8 in the morning and line up (we were shown pictures of lines, in case we didn't believe) so we skipped. Crowded observatories are no fun anyway.

Nearby Grace is learning some new poses from batman!

This is so much better than it looks! I love tofu deserts.

Getting to Batu Caves is extremely easy, and today was super hot to boot. The pole here is supposed to be building your anticipation as to what the cave entrance actually looks like :P

Large fish in a frenzy are kind of dangerous looking. I wonder what they wouldn't eat - I wonder if they'd eat a monkey...

Oh a monkey! How convenient. Actually they are kinda smelly so I didn't do anything.

Impressive golden statues distract us from what really is alot of stairs.

More distractions. She's a very interesting and weird mix of creatures.

The rock shaping the cave entrance is pretty awesome. We actually ducked to the side for a separate cave walk.

You can't go to the caves without going into the caves. And we were pretty sure the top of the stairs was going to be more shrines than caves.

Obviously in the caves, it was kinda dark. The tour was good, we heard bats, saw strange bugs, and watched  cockaroaches feasting on guano (yum!). Although there was this pretty cool part which I grabbed on video.

Ok back to the stairs. Actually at the top there was some TV show in production.

Beyond that, an opening. It was peaceful but the heat was pretty bad.

Still the rocks and greenery are very interesting!

Against all odds Joe isn't crushed to death by this slowly forming stalactite.

Cya skinny chicken!
