biking around kyoto

Today will be a big day! We need bikes!

So awesome to ride after days of walking. Especially in Kyoto - very flat and there are bikes everywhere. We headed over to Nijo Castle.

It was very nice old castle with squeaky floorboards.

Around it were high walls offering some nice vistas!

There was also a moat around it. Very pretty.

And in the moat there was a duck eating a fish! Well trying to - it was taking quite a long time... Maybe they were just playing.

Nice gardens.

Ah! Manga museum. Maybe better if you can read Japanese and are very familiar with manga. Few exhibitions, but good ones.

There was a popular cosplay area outside. Joe felt a little uncomfortable.

But Grace was keen!

Beef don!!

Biking really feels like the best way to get around.

Making it easy to find a lazy spot to nap.

It's Grace!

Time to find some more temples. They were everywhere.

We really picked a good day for this.

It's always time for a photo!

Bikes!

Go Grace!

There were many pretty areas to explore.

Found the Heian Jingu Shrine (Grace saying: Joe, It's over here!)

Yay dorky photos!

Yes Grace, there's always time for a jump photo!

Its a big gate!

There are temples and shrines everywhere in Kyoto, some of the smaller ones are nice because they are secluded and quiet.

This one had rat statues!

Just a quick moment to escape.

Some temples started to close... drive-by photos!

Ahh but the best was last.

It was Kiyomizudera Temple, photos don't really capture how awesome this place was. Maybe we were delirious from exhaustion, but during the spring the canopy was so green, the sun was setting over kyoto, everything was amazing.

My favorite so far!

A turtle said goodbye to us!
