hiroshima and miyajima

Jumped on a bullet train to Hiroshima, about 2 hours away.

Ah, not much to say. It's sad!

Very good memorial and museum though. Well worth it.

Onto Miyajima! Grace: where is that Miyajima anyway?

Oh, there it is!

Famous floating gates - actually smaller than I thought for some reason (Hey I can dream)

Inside main temple near famous floating gates.

It was very nice here, although very hot and sometimes smelling of deer - you know, that bad deer smell.

I think we missed high tide by an hour.

Still, there was a whole island to explore!

Full of natural wonders!

And cable cars! There was a mountain after all. I did think paying the amount we paid for these was ridiculous at first...

But they do take you for a pretty long way! Now I was starting to worry that we didn't get return tickets!

It was lots of fun.

At the top they would prefer you starve. Good thing we already had lunch.

Although that deer does look pretty tasty...

Grace pushes onwards! We actually had quite a bit of walking/climbing to do...

...Quite a bit of walking/climbing to do...

Finally!

We made it!

Yippee!

Conquered!

An hour later we had finished our painful but fulfilling decent to find the gates at low tide, and everyone marvelling at the fact that they don't actually float. All in all, a very good day!
